Pederson Preserve is a 5.6-acre parcel of land adjacent to Flint Creek at the southwest corner of Lake Cook and Hart Roads. The preserve connects more than 20 acres of prairie and wetlands owned by PepsiCo Research and Development Technical Center to the east with another five-acre conservation easement held by BACT to the west. Approximately 1000 people access the site each year, 750 of which are Barrington High School students using the site as part of their classroom curriculum.  In addition to education and passive recreation, Pederson Preserve is a River Watch citizen science stream monitoring site.   Through this program, Flint Creek, which runs through the property, is assessed for water quality. High School students and teachers, volunteers from the community, and a variety of other groups have been restoring Pederson Preserve since 2011.
