Important information from Lake County Sheriff’s Office-Prevent Auto Break-ins

Attention Residents

Important information from Lake County Sheriff’s Office

In all of Lake County, there has been an increase in stolen vehicles and burglaries to motor vehicles. A majority of these vehicles were left UNLOCKED with the keys IN THE VEHICLE.  94% of all the stolen passenger vehicles last year were a result of the keys being left in or near unlocked vehicles

The Sheriff’s Office is reminding residents to lock their cars and remove the keys.  Extra patrols are being conducted regularly by patrol units, however, locking car doors and removing extra keys and key fobs is the only way to properly assure that criminals cannot easily gain access to vehicles and steal them.

As a reminder, to reduce the chance of being the victim of a car burglary:

Always lock your car when it’s left unattended
Ensure all windows are closed and secured
Remove or hide all items of value from your car while it’s left unattended
Consider installing motion-sensor floodlights
Consider installing exterior home surveillance cameras
Report suspicious activity to law-enforcement
If your car is burglarized, report the incident to law-enforcement
