Voter Information

To update your record or register for the first time, voter registration is open all year except for the 27 days preceding an election, and it reopens the second day following an election. After voter registration closes, Grace Period Registration begins 27 days before any election, and you are required to vote at the time of your registration. You must register with the Election Officials at polling places during the Grace Registration Period.

While voter registration is open, you can register in-person, online, or by mail. See updated voting by mail instructions below.

Who May Register to Vote

All persons applying to register to vote must meet five requirements before a registrar completes a voter registration form in the State of Illinois. The applicant is required to:

  • Appear in person before the registrar;
  • Be a United States citizen;
  • Be 18 years old on or before next election, or 17 year-olds may register and vote in a primary election if 18th birthday is on or before the next general or consolidated election;
  • On the date of the next election, have resided in the voting precinct for 30 days; and
  • Provide two (2) forms of identification, and one must show the current physical address of the applicant’s residence.

Early Voting 

Village of Lake Barrington located at 23860 N. Old Barrington Road serves as an early voting site.  Any registered voter in Lake County may choose to vote early starting 15 days before the traditional Election Day. Check your registration status here:  https://www.lakecountyil.gov/351/Voter-Power.   You can vote at any early voting site regardless of where you live in Lake County.
