Request for Public Records

The Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) is a state statute (5 ILCS 140) that provides for a straight-forward, easy-to-use method for the public to gain access government records. Any person who wishes to inspect and/or obtain copies of public records from the Village of Lake Barrington shall submit a FOIA request unless the information in question can be obtained immediately on this website.

Please provide your request for copies or inspection of records, in writing to the FOIA Officer.

Village Clerk/Executive Assistant/FOIA Officer - Lisa C. Pena-Tlapa               [email protected]
Building Permit Administrator/Deputy Clerk/FOIA Officer - Julia C. Powers     [email protected]

Requests may be made by appointment, mail, email, facsimile request, or personal delivery. No standard form is required, however, if you wish you may use the “Freedom of Information Act Request Form” provided below. You will be notified with the disposition of your request within five business days after receipt of the request, excluding the day the request is received. If your request is for commercial purposes, then you will be notified with the disposition of your request within 21 business days after receipt of the request. The definition of Commercial Request in the public act is when the requestor seeks to use part or all of the public records for sale, resale, or solicitation or advertisement for sales or services.  Requests by the news media, not-for-profit organizations, scientific or academic institutions are not considered commercial requests.
